Knowland Park presents a rare glimpse of Oakland’s distinctive landscape without the human overlay. The natural habitats of the park are intimately connected to their geologic setting. This free walk will take us around the heart of the park as we study the shapes of the land, the rocks that crop out on it, and the geological features that underlie it (including the Hayward Fault and Chabot Fault). The wide views from Knowland Park’s gentle hills will lead us to consideration of other topics of Oakland geology, Bay Area geology on the regional scale andCalifornia as a whole.
Bring drinking water, sunscreen, a hat, and comfortable walking shoes! There are no bathroom or drinking water facilities at Knowland Park.
Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org (not required, but encouraged so we know how many people to expect).
This is a free event, but suggested donation of $5-10 is appreciated.
